If you own or manage property, you have probably spent months teaching ChatGPT how you think, what you own and how you like to work. You do not have to start from scratch when you move to Claude. You can carry all of that across in about two minutes, so Claude begins every chat already knowing your business. Here is the exact process.
Step 01 · Export what ChatGPT knows
First, get ChatGPT to write down everything it knows about you.
ChatGPT has been learning about you every time you use it. The goal here is to pull all of that out in one block you can carry across, rather than losing it.
Open ChatGPT and paste the prompt below. It asks ChatGPT to summarise what it knows about your portfolio, your strategy, your goals and the way you work, written so another assistant can read it.
What you need
A ChatGPT account you have used for a while, so it has memory to summarise. A Claude account, free or paid. About two minutes.
The longer you have used ChatGPT, the richer this summary comes back.

This gets ChatGPT to write a single summary of everything it knows about you, addressed to your next assistant, so Claude can read it as standing context. It is told not to invent anything it is unsure of.
Paste this into ChatGPT
You have months of context on me from our past conversations. I am moving to a different AI assistant and I want to bring that context with me.
Write a single summary of everything you know about me, so I can paste it into another assistant and have it understand me straight away. Write it in the second person, addressed to that assistant, and start with: "Here is what you need to know about the person you are working with."
Cover, in this order, and only what you actually know about me:
- Who I am: my role, where I am based, and what I do.
- My property portfolio and business: what I own or manage, and how it is structured.
- My investment strategy: my markets, property types, goals, time horizon and risk appetite.
- How I make decisions and like to work: how I want information presented, my tone, and anything I always want considered.
- My writing style: enough detail that the assistant can draft in my voice.
Keep it factual and specific. Where you are not sure of something, leave it out rather than guessing. Aim for 200 to 400 words.
If the summary is thin
This only works if ChatGPT has been remembering your conversations. If very little comes back, open ChatGPT settings, find the Personalisation section, and check that Memory is switched on, then try the prompt again.
Step 02 · Paste it into Claude
Give Claude the same context, once.
Claude has a setting for standing context about you, called your personal preferences. Whatever you put there is read at the start of every chat, in every conversation.
Copy the whole summary ChatGPT gave you, then drop it into that field. You are teaching Claude who you are one time, instead of re-explaining it every session.
Do this
In Claude, open Settings, then Profile. Your personal preferences live here.
Find the field that asks what Claude should know about you, and how you want it to respond.
Paste in the full summary you copied from ChatGPT.
Click Save. It now applies to every chat, automatically.
If the menu looks different
Claude's settings labels shift between plans and updates. If you do not see Profile, look for the section named personal preferences, or the box that asks what Claude should know about you. That is the one to paste into.
Step 03 · Check that it stuck
Open a new chat and see what Claude already knows.
Start a fresh conversation, so nothing else is feeding it. Then ask it to tell you about yourself, using only what it now has saved.
If the setting worked, Claude answers from your real position without you pasting anything first. That is the moment you know it is live.

If the answers reflect your actual markets, capital and goals, the handover worked. If they read as generic advice, go back to Step 02 and check the summary saved.
Why this matters
From now on Claude reads that context before every reply. Ask it to analyse a property, review a rent roll or draft an investor update, and it starts from your business instead of a blank page.
Step 04 · Keep it current
Update it as your portfolio and plan change.
This is a living note, not a one-off. When you buy, sell, change strategy or shift your goals, open the setting and add a line so Claude stays accurate.
The better you keep it, the sharper every answer gets, because Claude is always working from your latest position instead of a snapshot from months ago.
What to add over time
A new acquisition or exit. A change in target market or property type. A different risk appetite or time horizon. Anything you find yourself re-explaining in chat is a sign it belongs in the setting instead.
One thing to keep in mind
This is a profile, not a vault. Put your strategy, markets and goals in here. Keep bank balances, passwords and anything you would not want saved in a setting out of it.
